| Another great one... |
[Feb. 25th, 2009|02:23 pm] |
Philip Jose Farmer has passed away. Almost certainly my favorite author and definitely the one with the largest portion in my collection. I still think he's been relatively underrated and underappreciated though he had some recognition, especially early on. Sad news but he did have a pretty long and fully life. |

At first I thought there were no obama signs outside my polling location. When I left I realized there were two but they weren't at great angles. Certainly there were many more mccain signs.
Apparently everyone voting tuesday morning had names in the beginning of the alphabet. There were 40+ people in the A-L line. 0 in the M-Z line.
Voting done by filling out scantronny bubbles then sticking form in the machine the resembles a shredder more than it really should. |

| doctors! |
[Aug. 13th, 2008|02:31 pm] |
|
So I've been somewhat sick and had a pretty good fever last night (102F) and a weird lack of many other symptoms, so I called the practice where I had gone the last couple of times around 8:20am this morning. I left a message on their appointment line and they got right back to me, but said the earliest they had was 3:15. It wasn't great but I'd take it. At 2pm they call and say the doctor had left on a family emergency and could I do tomorrow morning? I sort of pleaded with them to try to squeeze me in with one of the other two doctors and they are going to try to jam me in at 4:45, but I thought they would keep slots for actually sick people or have cancellations or something? |

| Hacking and Tech support, with water! |
[Sep. 16th, 2007|09:49 pm] |
|
After watching Yahtzee's review of Bioshock the image of plumbing = hacking stuck with me. Today after managing to completely bungle my Well UV purification system in comic fashion I also got plumbing tech support. Once I got the parts, based on the advice I had gotten over the phone, I actually was able to reverse what I had done and gotten the water in the house working again. So now I have a degree from hard knocks in uv purificaiton technology. |

Well I've been a lazy blogger so I repent with these random thoughts. My Paladin made level 70 last night. It felt a little anticlimactic but still somewhat accomplished. The timing is good as at Blizzcon this weekend announced the expansion which will raise the cap again to 80. Sadly the Starcraft boardgame info at blizzcon was still a bit spotty.
And curses to CVS for advertising the peanut butter banana reeses peanut butter cups but not actually having them in the store! |

| Spidey Plummets? |

As S3 begins its descent on the tomatometer, I've been inspired to re-read Venom stuff. I was able to find a box of comics in the basement more quickly than I expected and there were some individual venom volumes, but I remembered that I had the graphic novels at some point. Perusing some more bookshelves upstairs finally netted success! Nestled in among the long-forgotten bloom county and far side volumes was Saga of the Alien Costume and Spider-man vs. Venom. |

| Well produced podcast serial? |
[Apr. 24th, 2007|04:03 pm] |
I often catch bits of Lost on the radio after band (I caught it more often before they moved it to 10pm, but sometimes they still do encores at 9.) I think it works really well in this format. I don't watch the show, maybe I will watch them all on DVD someday if they end up being worthwhile. Anyway this has inspired me to wonder if there are similar audio podcast type thingies along these lines. Does anyone know of any? |

| Armageddon Rag |
[Feb. 6th, 2007|12:44 pm] |
I happened to stop by B&N yesterday and as I was about heading to leave, The Armageddon Rag jumped out and grabbed me. I had been excited when this George RR Martin book was to be reprinted what a year ago or more? But by now I had given up. Yet there it was in front of me. So I had to get it. Unfortunately the cover is more glossy and doesn't really go with Fevre Dream and Dying of the Light or whatever the other novel was. I read the first chapter though and it was great. I may have actually seen a chapter before as a preview in one of the other novels.
Also Borders had 50% off some games. I grabbed Knights of Charlemagne and I'm the Boss which seemed like the only ones worth getting at this location. So I ended up spending way more at borders than planned. |

OK So I got my WoW expansion up and running about 12 hours ago after hitting the midnight gamestop with 70+ others. And no I haven't been playing it straight through since then. I just did some quick jewelcrafting and slept. and now at work. ah well. |

Dear Santa...
Dear Santa,
This year I've been busy!
In August I got in line at the supermarket at the same time as someone else and I didn't yield (-8 points). In September I saved a busload of nuns in Angola (326 points). In May I punched tirerim in the arm (-10 points). Last Tuesday I put money in uncleamos's expired parking meter (14 points). Last week I bought porn for ajacs (10 points).
Overall, I've been nice (332 points). For Christmas I deserve a Pony Slaystation 3!
Sincerely, leepinleemur |

| Farmerian Reading |
[Sep. 19th, 2006|11:05 pm] |
argh stupid IE just killed my posting. I've been reading a ton of Philip Jose Farmer lately. He is one of my favorite author's and certainly the one of whom I own the most books. I recently got The Best of Philip Jose Farmer. It is a new collection, but I had read nearly all the stories before. Still it was great to reread it and remember how amazing those stories are. That led me to pull other things off the shelf. I realized that I owned quite a few books I had not read before. I started with some short story collections, then I read Tongues of the Moon, Time's Last Gift and currently The Green Odyssey. Today I just received Pearls from Peoria, a HUGE and wondrous collection of stuff, most of which I haven't read. It is very exciting.
Here's a picture of about half of my Farmer books.

[Sep. 7th, 2006|12:19 am] |
Well the wife's van seemed to not want to start after she went out tonight (of course it wouldn't break down at home). AAA is towing it right now.
It just added to sort of a weird day (or week?). Anyway, band www.cccband.org started tonight, and that was fun.
I'm listening to wmmr now, wondering if they will play "Supper's Ready" as part of their ongoing alphabetical airplay this time. They did last time. But why do I care when I have it on CD? I don't know.

w00t, got the snazzy icon courtesy of allecto THANKS!! (Though I could still use one that actually features a Leaping Lemur.)
Sadly Metalacolypse was disappointing this weekend. Venture Bros more than made up for it though.
I lost in Mario Party, but won in Time's Up. It has been a nice, mostly lazy, holiday weekend. |
